A man and woman who Saskatoon police say stole a truck from a home in the Lakeview neighbourhood are facing charges after an alleged confrontation with the truck’s owner.

The two, a 30-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were taken into custody after officers were called twice to Stillwater Drive shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday. The first report stated a truck was stolen from a residence on the 200 block and the second caller reported a break and enter at a home on the 100 block.

Police say officers were flagged down when they arrived at the scene. The owner of the truck and another man were sprayed with bear spray after the owner and his family members confronted the suspects, according to police.

Officers arrested the two suspects and found a black airsoft pistol after arriving at the scene. The pair was responsible for both the truck theft and the break and enter, police say.

Charges include vehicle theft, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon, and mischief over $5,000. The man was wanted for an armed robbery in Alberta, according to police.

Both are expected to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday.
