Saskatoon police say a shotgun blast that struck a 19-year-old man shot in the legs and lower body was not a random act.

The man was on an apartment balcony in the 100 block of Avenue P South just before midnight Saturday when he was shot by someone he knew, police said in a news release. The man was taken to hospital in stable condition and police are continuing the search for the suspect.

The shooting was just one incident in a busy weekend for police that saw them respond to several armed robberies and a stabbing.

Late Saturday, a man in the back alley 100 block of 110th Street East was approached by a male and a female who pulled out a sawed-off firearm and stole victim’s cellphone. No shots were fired and the victim was not injured.

At approximately 5 a.m. Sunday a convenience store in the 1000 block of Taylor Street was robbed of cigarettes and cash by what police said were four Caucasian men whose faces were covered by bandanas. Two of the men carried handguns during the robbery. Two employees on duty were not injured.

A pharmacy on Central Avenue was robbed of narcotics just at 11 a.m. Sunday by a male suspect who presented a note demanding specific narcotics and claiming to have a gun and a knife, police said in a news release. The suspect is described as Caucasian, six-feet tall, with a thin build. He was wearing light brown construction overalls and a black hoodie with a black neck warmer pulled up over his face.

The stabbing took place just after 8 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of 20th Street East. A 28-year-old male who had been stabbed in the arm was taken to Royal University Hospital in stable condition.
