The rumours are true. A second Costco is officially coming to Saskatoon.

Arbutus Properties announced Saturday that Costco will be the anchor tenant for a retail development called The Meadow Market in Saskatoon.

“(Saskatoon’s) market is very strong and there was a lot of demand,” Jeff Drexel, CEO of Arbutus Properties, said.

The development will be located in the city's Rosewood area and will include a diverse combination of retailers including clothing and outdoor sporting goods stores, grocery stores and coffee shops.

Drexel said negotiations to have Costco as a tenant were lengthy and difficult, but he's excited about the announcement.

“We think its great news for the city,” Drexel said. “The city was a huge help in helping us get through a lot of hoops in order to get (Costco) into the centre and we are very pleased to have them here. We think it's going to be great for the city and everyone in Saskatoon.”

Construction of The Meadows Market, including Costco, is expected to begin this summer. The rest of the retail development will be phased over the next three years.
