RCMP are looking to speak to a man in connection to the suspicious and sudden death of an educational assistant near Wilkie, Sask.

Investigators are hoping to speak with Wesley John Veit. He may have information related to the death of Heidi Veit, according to police.

Mounties have yet to identify Heidi as the deceased or clarify her relationship with Wesley, but a letter from the Living Sky School Division sent to parents confirmed her name. She worked as an educational assistant at McLurg High School in Wilkie, the letter stated.

“We have suffered a tragedy at our school. One of our staff members, Heidi Veit, died suddenly and unexpectedly,” the letter read.

“Heidi was an educational assistant and valued team member and friend at McLurg High School. She will be greatly missed.”

Wilkie Mayor David Ziegler told CTV News that Heidi was a mother of two boys, and she previously worked at the town office. He called Wesley her ex-husband and said they were split up. Ziegler says Heidi was outgoing and had a bubbly personality.

Her death prompted a heavy police response a few kilometres northeast of the west-central Saskatchewan town, in the RM of Buffalo. Mounties with the RCMP’s Unity detachment as well as major crimes police and emergency response officers were called to the scene.

The incident occurred Monday, according to police. Emergency response officers have since left the scene, but Unity RCMP, major crimes police and the coroner’s office are still investigating.

No charges have been laid.

Two schools in the community, Norman Carter Elementary School and McLurg, were placed under hold and secures as a precaution Tuesday, according to a spokesperson for Living Sky School Division.

Counsellors and crisis teams are being made available to students, the division said.

Anyone with information on Wesley Veit’s whereabouts is asked to call police. He should not be approached, RCMP say.
