A director with the new Saskatchewan Health Authority has resigned over social media posts.

Donald Rae was appointed to Saskatchewan’s new provincial health authority board just over a week ago. But he resigned Thursday afternoon over offensive social media posts regarding the prime minister, the Spanish language and Mexicans.

"He (Rae) has expressed his regret, and his hope that this will not detract from the work that lies ahead for the new authority,” Minister of Health Jim Reiter said in a statement. “This will not delay the implementation of the new board, as we remain on target for having the new provincial health authority operational this fall."

A health authority profile says Rae founded a series of service companies. He is currently the president and CEO of Crusader Drilling Corporation.

The date the Saskatchewan Health Authority will launch is still being determined, but is anticipated to occur in fall 2017. On that date, the 12 health region boards will dissolve and be replaced by the permanent Saskatchewan Health Authority Board.
