The evacuation order has been lifted for residents near a natural gas fire that burned for a week near the community of Prud'homme.

The fire started on Oct. 11 after an explosion at the TransGas holding facility and couldn't be extinguished until late Friday.

Transgas says the new wellhead has been tested and is now performing to safety specifications, so the 13 people who were evacuated can return home.

The company estimates the cost of the fire to be between $5 million and $10 million.

The company says residents who had to leave the area as a result of the fire will be reimbursed for any expenses faced during their time away from home.
