Playful Paws Pet Center says they’ve fixed electrical issues that caused 14 dogs to die of heat exhaustion earlier this month.

The centre stated in a Facebook post on Wednesday that they’ve repaired and replaced faulty equipment, and have replaced an alarm system to monitor temperatures. The system will send an alert to a manager’s phone and prompt a call from the alarm company if temperatures reach as high as 27 C or as low as 12 C.

“This alarm system modification is the most significant change to ensure that the accident that occurred can never happen again,” the post read.

On Sept. 10, 14 dogs died at the kennel after an electrical malfunction caused a rooftop heating unit to continuously push heat into an upstairs room where the dogs were being held.
