Saskatoon firefighters say a neighbour’s quick action helped crews respond to a fire in the backyard of a College Park area home.

Firefighters were called to the shed and garage fire at 341 Simon Fraser Crescent just before noon Sunday. The shed was engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived, but crews quickly extinguished the blaze and prevented further damage to the nearby garage.

“The call originated from a neighbour,” said Bill Riley, a fire department battalion chief. “Good on her for her quick action. She came out. She smelled smoke. She actually investigated it. She made the call, so kudos to her.”

Two people living in the home on the property made it out safely, Riley said.

Damage to the shed is estimated at $5,000, while damage to the garage is about $10,000.

The cause of the fire is still not known.
