Canadian Pacific Railway is investigating after a train derailment near Wilkie, Sask.
Twenty-five cars containing potash fell off the tracks just after noon Friday, according to Salem Woodrow, a CP spokesperson.
“The cause of the derailment is under investigation. This can include equipment, track, train handling, etc.,” Woodrow wrote in an email.
The derailment was the second Canadian Pacific derailment within a 24-hour span. The second incident, which occurred Saturday morning in Bawlf, Alta., saw 29 cars come off the tracks.
The train’s locomotive and some cars were the same in both derailments, but Woodrow claims the two incidents are not connected.
“The two incidents in Bawlf and Wilkie are unrelated, but the locomotives and some of the cars from the train at Wilkie were on the train at Bawlf as it made its journey from east to west,” Woodrow wrote.
CP reopened the rail line in Wilkie on Sunday, after all repairs and safety inspections were done. The track in Bawlf was still under repair Sunday morning.
