A $60.6-million contract to build two overpasses at Martensville and Warman has been awarded to Peter Kiewit Infrastructure Co., the province announced Friday.

The international contractor won the bid over two other companies, and included several Saskatchewan partners in its proposal, according to the provincial government.

“I’m extremely pleased that Saskatchewan companies will be playing a major role in the design and construction of the new overpasses,” Nancy Heppner, Saskatchewan’s highways and infrastructure minister, said in a media release.

One interchange will be built on Highway 11, near the Highway 305 intersection, at Warman. The other will be constructed near Martensville’s Main Street, on Highway 12.

“The overpasses will improve safety in Warman and Martensville, two of the fastest-growing communities in Saskatchewan,” Heppner said.

Provincial partners in PKIC’s bid included Regina’s Westridge Construction Ltd. and Clifton Associates, as well as Estevan’s KPCL Dirt Movers. Vancouver’s McElhanney Consulting Services, which has three offices in Saskatchewan, and Edmonton’s Great Northern Engineering Consultants were also attached to the bid.

The federal government will fund up to half of the project, while the province will cover the remainder.

Heppner announced the funding plans alongside Ralph Goodale, Canada’s public safety and emergency preparedness minister, at Martensville City Hall on Friday during the contract announcement.
