The City of Saskatoon in in a huff over what it says is an inaccurate despiction of it property tax structure in the Huffington Post Canada.

The online story says Saskatoon has the highest property taxes of major cities in Canada and that’s not sitting well with officials at city hall.

They say it's a well-known and proven fact Saskatoon has one of the lowest property taxes in the country. City assessor Les Smith says every province has a different process for figuring out its taxes, and the Huffington Post didn't take that into account.

"It appears they've missed that step and as a result they probably overestimated what the taxes would be by roughly 30 per cent,” Smith said.

“In the article they stated a house with an assessment value of $353,000 would have taxes of roughly $4,440. And in Saskatoon the property taxes would be about $3,110."

City administration says it has contacted the Huffington Post about the article but has not yet heard back.
