A Melfort family is spending one last weekend with their beloved pet, before they are forced to give him up.

Abraham is a 140 pound potbellied pig. Karli Kierstead and her family rescued him three years ago while they lived in Kelowna. The family has since moved to Melfort, and the city has a bylaw against livestock in city limits.

The family says it will be sad to see Abraham go.

“I have people in town that are willing to write letters that they have no problem with him,” Kierstead told CTV News, “Potbellied pigs are not breeding pigs, they’re not anything like that. They are just a pet, and we want to show city council that he belongs here, just as much as anybody else.”

The family has to get rid of Abraham by Monday, or face a fine.
