The Meewasin Valley Authority says the water flow this weekend on the South Saskatchewan will be three times faster than normal for this time of year.

The Water Security Agency says water flow will be about 390 cubic metres per sec. and can be dangerous.

THE MVA says the deep fast moving river water channel snakes back and forth across the river and can be along the edge of a shoreline sandbar. It says to keep-an-eye on your children playing at the river's edge as it can be dangerous.

The downstream end of a river sandbar is like the overhang of a snowdrift, one can break through into a 8-12 foot trench of fast moving water. A lifejacket for children is a good idea.

The MVA says that if past trends continue, there will be more than 400 drownings in Canada this year. 34 children will drown between now and Labour Day. Most drownings will occur under the supervision of their parents.
