A man from Meadow Lake will compete in the Calgary Stampede rodeo this week.

Cody Coverchuk received an invitation to compete in Pool B of the bull riding event.

“Getting to ride at the Calgary Stampede has always been one of my dreams and everyone that has been involved in rodeo, I think it’s one of their dreams too,” Coverchuk, who has been professionally bull riding for the past five years, said.

The 23-year-old will compete against nine other bull riders across Canada and the U.S.

The rider with the best score will take home $100,000.

“I just want to go out there and have fun, keep it simple and hopefully bring back $100,000 to Saskatchewan,” Coverchuk told CTV, adding he hopes to win in honour of his dad who died last year.

Coverchuk’s invitation to the rodeo comes after winning first place in the Ranchman’s PBR Bull Bustin’ competition last week, his first Professional Bull Riders victory of the season.

He is set to compete in the Calgary Stampede July 11 – July 14.
