The Saskatoon SPCA received enough donated food Thursday morning to keep theanimal shelter stocked with food for at least a year.

Forty-thousand pounds of food for dogs and cats was unloaded at the SPCA, thanks to PetSmart's Buy a Bag, Give a Meal program.

In fact, they received so much they are calling on other animal welfare organizations in Saskatchewan to come and share in the massive pet food donation.

"It lifts an incredible burden off of us here," said the SPCA's Cathy Brin. “As you can imagine, we see thousands of animals at the Saskatoon SPCA every year and they all ofcourse need their bellies full every day, so not having to worry about food for the next 12 months is incredible."

The donation amounts to 185,000 meals for animals in need.
