A fire in Martensville has completely destroyed one home and damaged two others.

Fire crews were called to a house on the 200 block of Enns Crescent around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. A member of the Martensville Fire Department said by the time crews arrived — seven minutes after the call — flames had spread to an adjacent home.

Ed Young, who lives in the second house, said he woke up to a loud popping sound before running over to check on his neighbours. He knocked on his neighbour’s door just as they were exiting the home.

Young’s home suffered $350,000 in damage. His neighbour’s house, which the fire department said suffered $400,000 in damage, was completely destroyed.

A third house saw its siding melted.

Crews needed just over an hour to extinguish the blaze.

The cause is still unknown.

A fire investigator is expected on scene later Saturday afternoon.
