A Saskatchewan man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally shooting a 21-year-old man on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation last fall.

Tyrone Jacob Knife was shot to death on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on September 2nd, 2015. RCMP say he was found in the early morning hours after officers received a complaint of an injured unresponsive man on a trail leading to several homes on the reserve.

Jacob Knife was found suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS and STARS air ambulance responded to the scene. Knife was transported by EMS, but was pronounced deceased before STARS could transport him to hospital.

A judge accepted a joint submission from the crown prosecutor and defence lawyer of 10 years behind bars. Dakota Knife was given 188 days credit for time he has served in custody.
