A man convicted in the second-degree murder of an ATM serviceman has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years.

Daniel Smith was sentenced Wednesday in Prince Albert after a jury found him guilty in January for the shooting death of Roger Byer.

Byer, who was 57, was last seen servicing an ATM machine in Melfort in January 2010. His body was found that April in an abandoned farm yard.

The judge called the murder a callous crime committed in cold blood and said Smith showed no remorse.

Another man is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and weapons trafficking in the case. He has yet to go to trial.
