A 38-year-old man has been charged after he was spotted with what appeared to be a rifle Wednesday afternoon.

Construction crews working on the edge of Saskatoon's Evergreen neighbourhood, in the city's northeast end, reported seeing a man sitting in the bushes looking through the scope of what they believed to be a rifle.

Police instructed the crews to leave the area as an armoured rescue vehicle and Tactical Support Unit officers were called to the scene.

The man was taken into custody without incident and a BB gun was recovered.

A police media release Thursday stated he has since been charged with mischief under $5,000.
