A 20-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with public mischief after he allegedly took a school bus hostage on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the man approached the bus driver just before 4:30 p.m. in the area of 27th Street West and Hunt Road and started harassing him. He then climbed up on the bus and stayed on the roof.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after and tried to convince the man to come down, but they say he continued to scream and yell from the top of the bus.

The bus was transported to a safe location and all of the passengers, who were special needs adults, were safely removed.

Police continued to talk to the man and after about 20 minutes he finally climbed down from the bus and was taken into custody.

According to police, the man appeared to be under the influence of some sort of drug and after he was checked out by a paramedic he was taken into custody.

He will appear in court on a later date.
