A man attempted to steal a truck while a passenger was sleeping inside the vehicle on Friday night, according to Saskatoon police.

Police say a woman in the passenger seat woke up to an intoxicated man sitting in the driver’s seat, attempting to drive away from a gas station on Ruth Street.

The woman screamed and was able to exit the truck.

The owner of the truck was inside the gas station and pulled the man out.

When Saskatoon police arrived, the man ran away.

Police dogs found the suspect in a backyard near the gas station.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with theft of a vehicle and driving while impaired.
