Human remains found in Alberta have been identified as those of a man missing for nearly a year.

RCMP say the remains, found April 5, were recently identified by major crimes investigators and the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office as those of 42-year-old Dwayne Demkiw.

Demkiw, whose parents live in Saskatoon, was reported missing May 31, 2015. He was last seen leaving his workplace in Edmonton, and his car was later found in Calgary.

Edmonton police said shortly after his disappearance that investigators suspected foul play.

His remains were found in Innisfail, a community just south of Red Deer.

RCMP say Edmonton police are taking over the case.
