Human remains found in a slough near Prince Albert last week are those of homicide victim Troy Napope, an autopsy has determined.

RCMP said Wednesday the coroner’s office recently confirmed the identity of the remains, which were found April 20 by police investigating Napope’s death.

The remains were recovered in a slough west of the Saskatchewan Penitentiary by underwater recovery teams, according to police.

Napope, who was 23 when he disappeared in the summer of 2015, was last seen May 27 and 28 at a party in Prince Albert. He was reported missing June 6.

A vehicle he was driving the morning of May 28 was found that same day burning northwest of the city, and in November, police said investigators were treating his death as a homicide.

Braidy Chase Vermette and Skylar Patrick Bird are facing first-degree murder charges in the death.

Last week’s search was being conducted on private property, according to RCMP. The property owners are not connected to the investigation.
