A member of the Craik RCMP shot and killed a Holdfast man on Wednesday during a criminal investigation.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, a member of the Craik RCMP went to a Holdfast residence during an investigation and while he was inside the home, an altercation between him and the owner occurred. The RCMP member shot at the resident, and the 42-year-old was hit and died on the scene.
The Regina Police were asked to do an independent investigation into the shooting. The independent investigation is part of RCMP policy. They’ll report their findings to the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General.
According to a news release from the RCMP, an independent external investigation is defined as ““an investigation for which the RCMP would normally have investigative responsibility but…the RCMP has requested an external law enforcement agency or a federally, provincially or territorially established investigative agency to conduct, and includes both the pre- and post-charge phases of such an investigation”.
The RCMP hae also requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent Observer.
The name of the deceased has not been released at this time.
