One man is dead after a car crashed head-on into an SUV carrying a woman and infant on a west-central Saskatchewan highway.

RCMP were called to the collision near the intersection of Highway 684 and Highway 303, about 40 kilometres east of Lloydminster, around 2 p.m. Friday.

A car travelling westbound on Highway 303 crossed the centre line and collided into an eastbound SUV. The SUV tried to avoid the crash, RCMP said in a media release.

The lone man in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman and infant in the SUV were not injured but taken to hospital in Lloydminster as a precaution.

The highway was re-opened by 10 p.m.

RCMP are still investigating.
