A group of local organizations teamed up to look at Saskatoon’s food situation on Saturday.

An information and feedback session was held at Saturday’s Farmers Market, where the groups involved said they hope to ultimately improve the food system in the city by strengthening the presence of local food.

“We’re not opposed to imports and exports, but we want a stronger role for local food, and we want to think about food waste, and we also want to have a vibrant food culture in the city here and in our area,” said Denise Kouri, coordinator of the Saskatoon region food system assessment.

The group hopes to create an action plan that will eventually lead to a regional food strategy.
