A police investigation spanning four countries has led to charges against a Saskatoon man of abducting his child.

Investigators allege the child's father, 47-year old Alexander Levin, travelled with a Brazilian woman and their two-year-old daughter from Brazil to Ukraine in July.

Police say the man took the little girl and went to the Philippines, where he left her before he returned to Canada.

Saskatoon police were alerted to the situation in August.

Police spokeswoman Kelsie Fraser said authorities from the four countries worked together, which led to the arrest of the 47-year-old man on Friday.

Fraser says the child was found in the Philippines and is in the care of social services in that country.

Levin made his first court appearance in Saskatoon today where he was remanded in custody until tomorrow morning when he will have a show cause hearing.
