Two men and two women from Alberta are facing charges after a stolen truck took Saskatoon police outside city limits early Thursday morning.

Officers tried to stop a speeding truck around 1:30 a.m. at the city’s Avenue F North and 30th Street West, but the truck refused to pull over, police said in a media release.

Police called off the pursuit but notified other officers in the area.

A second attempt to stop the truck — this time using a spike belt at Idylwyld Drive and Marquis Drive — also failed, and the driver continued north out of the city.

Warman RCMP notified police they located the suspect vehicle abandoned near Cathedrals Bluffs, a subdivision northeast of Saskatoon.

A police canine unit managed to track two suspects — a man and a woman — while a nearby patrol unit located a third suspect — a woman. The fourth suspect, police said, crossed the ice over the South Saskatchewan River. He was found hiding inside a garage in an area across the river.

The vehicle was reported stolen out of Drayton Valley, Alta., police said.

Two men, aged 35 and 39, and two women, aged 24 and 37, are facing charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. The 37-year-old woman is also charged with possessing methamphetamine and marijuana.

The four were scheduled to appear before a justice of the peace Thursday evening.
