Five girls, all under the age of 18, have been arrested and charged after stealing and crashing an SUV, Saskatoon police say.

The teens stole the vehicle at Avenue B and 22nd Street Tuesday at around 5:30 a.m.

Police lost sight of the stolen vehicle as it went south, but spotted it again at 17th Street and Avenue G.

The drivers then crashed the SUV at Avenue K and 12th Street.

The girls all ran from the scene, but police arrested and charged all five with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Saskatoon police have not confirmed whether the keys were inside the vehicle at the time it was stolen, as the investigation continues.

The teens are set to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
