Five men are facing charges after an alleged bear mace attack inside a Unity, Sask. home.

Unity RCMP were called around 12:40 p.m. Saturday to a fight inside a house in the west-central Saskatchewan town.

Two men and one woman were sprayed with bear mace, police said. One man had cuts on his head.

The victims told police five men barged into the home, struck the man with a bottle before spraying the home’s basement with bear mace.

Four of the accused were arrested hours later when officers from the RCMP’s Lloydminster and Maidstone detachments spotted a suspect vehicle on Highway 16 entering Lloydminster.

The fifth suspect was arrested Monday.

All five — Matthew Meleshko, 24, Catlin Thomas, 24, Dakoda Foeller, 22, Jason Johnson, 28, and Austin Beckley, 21 — face charges of breaking, entering and committing an assault with a weapon.

Meleshko and Thomas are also charged with possessing a prohibited weapon.

Four appeared in Lloydminster provincial court Monday. The fifth appeared Tuesday morning in North Battleford provincial court.

The victims in Saturday’s alleged attack sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention, RCMP said.
