Investigators say an electrical fan failure sparked a fire that caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to a Saskatoon strip mall Sunday.

Fire crews from three stations responded just after 3 p.m. after a passerby reported smoke coming from a second-floor window of the building a 218 Wheeler Crescent.

Firefighters entered the building where they extinguished a fire that had started in equipment and materials being stored on pallet racks, Saskatoon Fire Department said in a news release.

The blaze was under control in 13 minutes and did not extend to nearby structures.
