A family escaped unharmed after an alarm alerted them to a fire in their home early Wednesday.

Two adults and two children were outside the home in the 200 block of Avenue I North when firefighters arrived just before 5:30 a.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department said in a news release.

Heavy smoke was coming from the residence and crews located the fire in the home’s kitchen. The fire was confined to the kitchen area and brought under control in 13 minutes. Other areas of the home sustained smoke damage.

A fire investigator was on scene Wednesday working to determine the cause of the fire. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
