A Saskatchewan RCMP officer has been assigned to administrative duties and an independent investigation is underway after he shot a man on the Deschambault Lake First Nation.

RCMP received numerous complaints of a gun being fired on the first nation on Sunday. While responding to the incident, a Deschambault Lake RCMP officer fired his gun and hit a man. He received medical attention at a local nursing station for a gunshot wound, according to an RCMP news release.

It’s RCMP policy that an independent, external review be launched anytime an RCMP officer fires a weapon. RCMP say the situation a “serious incident.”

The Saskatoon Police Service has agreed to conduct the investigation and the RCMP has requested the Ministry of Justice to appoint an independent observer.
