Saskatchewan Party - Doreen Eagles
Doreen Eagles was born in Midale, Sask. and grew up in the Macoun-Estevan area. Upon the completion of her education, Doreen and her husband Vic ran the family farm and raised two children, Terry and Trisha.
Doreen was first elected to represent the Estevan riding in the 1999 provincial general election. She was re-elected in 2003 and again in 2007. During her terms in opposition, Doreen served as caucus whip and held a number of critic portfolios.
In the government caucus, Doreen served as caucus chair and was appointed as the caucus liaison to Cabinet.
She has been a member of the caucus' Human Services Standing Policy Committee and of two legislative committees: the Standing Committee on Human Services and The Privileges House Committee. Doreen also sits on the Board of Internal Economy.
Doreen has always been involved in her community and says that she volunteers for any charitable organization that needs help. One of her proudest days as an MLA was the day the Saskatchewan Party government funded the cancer drug Avastin.
Doreen is proud to be from Saskatchewan. "I love the wide open spaces – I live on my farm, so I appreciate the peace and serenity there," she said. "And I think Saskatchewan people are among the friendliest in the world."
After a courageous battle with cancer, Doreen's husband Vic passed away on August 25, 2008. Vic was Doreen's biggest supporter. He was also Doreen and the family's hero, especially their five grandchildren: Beau, Brooke, Bailee, Shelby and Tristan.
NDP – Blair Schoenfeld
Blair Schoenfeld was selected as the NDP candidate for Estevan at a nomination meeting in Estevan on March 5, 2011.
Born in Weyburn, Schoenfeld grew up in rural Saskatchewan, attended the university of Regina, and lived and worked in Regina before moving to Estevan 10 years ago.
He works in sales and logistics at a local building retailer in Estevan. In his volunteer time, Blair is an elder and worship leader at his church.
