The accomplishments and contributions of eight Saskatchewan people were recognized during a ceremony Tuesday in Saskatoon.

This year’s recipients of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the province’s highest honour, include Dr. Brian Rossnagel, a professor at the University of Saskatchewan, and Saskatoon lawyer Thomas Malloy.

Entrepreneur and philanthropist W. Brett Wilson, a native of North Battleford, was also among the honorees, as was Raymond Ahenakew, a First Nations leader from the Ahtahkakoop First Nation.

Others receiving the award included Sandra Birdsell, Barbara Keirnes Young, and David Thauberger, all from Regina.

The final award was presented posthumously to Bruce Beatty of Melfort, the designer of the Order of Merit.
