A driver has been charged after an 86-year-old Saskatoon man died following what police are calling a “possible” collision at 20th Street and Avenue G.

Officers were called to the intersection at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. A pedestrian was injured and taken to hospital, and died Friday, according to police.

Police say investigators believe the man was crossing the street when the driver of a truck entered the crosswalk and stopped suddenly.

Officers aren’t sure if the pedestrian was hit or if he was startled and fell as a result of other medical conditions.

The driver, a 61-year-old man, has since been charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian.

The 86-year-old’s name has not yet been released. An autopsy will be conducted, police say.
