The man convicted last month of killing Daleen Bosse filed a notice of appeal this week.

Douglas Hales was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced Dec. 17 to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.

His Vancouver-based lawyer filed the appeal notice Thursday. The document cites three reasons for the appeal, which is mostly based on the unusual situation the trial was put into after the Supreme Court changed the admissibility of confessions obtained during so-called “Mr. Big stings.”

The Crown used a confession Hales gave to undercover RCMP officers as a major part of its case.

The appeal states Justice Gerald Allbright erred in applying the new rules when considering Hales’ confession.
