For the first time since her husband's arrest, friends and family of Dorothy Woods saw the man accused of first-degree murder in her death in court.

David Woods was charged after his wife's body was found inside a culvert in the Blackstrap Lake area two weeks ago. She had been missing for nearly two months.

Dorothy's brother, Lawrence Carter, spoke to reporters about a tense exchange he had with his sister's accused murderer in court Thursday.

"I kinda looked towards him and kinda shrugged my shoulders and put my hands up asking why and he just mouthed, I believe it was "f--- you," and that was it from him," Carter said.

Sandy Lukowich, a friend of Dorothy, said it was hard to explain how she felt during the court appearance.

"I do miss her a lot now, more than ever," Lukowich said. "Justice must be served."

David Woods will be back in court Feb. 2.
