The Prince Albert Parkland Health Authority has approved the tendering process for the new Pineview Terrace Lodge.
The new facility is expected to cost $22 million and will have 60 beds. It will replace the existing facility which was built nearly 50 years ago and can only house 30 patients.
The new facility will be built next to Victoria Hospital and will connect to the hospital with a tunnel.
The building is scheduled to be open by 2014.
