Two people were injured after their car was dragged nearly half a kilometre down the tracks after being struck by a train Tuesday.

The collision occurred just after 6:30 p.m. at a controlled rail crossing near Fairlight Drive and 11th Street.

Saskatoon firefighters used rescue tools to extricate a 17-year-old male passenger from the vehicle.

The passenger, along with the 18-year-old male driver of the vehicle, was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

There were no injuries to members of the train crew.
