Jeff and Jacque Parker can finally cross ‘hotel room’ off their Grey Cup to-do list.
The Saskatoon couple, who found out last month their hotel for Grey Cup weekend had been overbooked, finally found a place to stay Tuesday.
“We were relieved. As of yesterday, we didn’t know what we were going to do,” said Jacque.
The Parkers booked a room in the Super 8 Regina the day after last year’s Grey Cup. They booked with four other couples.
All four couples were told last month their rooms were no longer available. Super 8 explained in an email that the overbooking was due to a technical glitch.
“You’d think if you had a confirmation number you wouldn’t have to worry about anything,” Jacque said.
Two of the couples whose rooms were overbooked by Super 8 elected not to attend the Grey Cup. One chose to stay with family in Regina, and the Parkers are now staying at the Comfort Inn.
Jacque was very thankful to the numerous families in Regina who offered them a place to stay, but said a hotel was the way they wanted to go.
“I can’t tell you how many phone calls we had from people offering their place. That was really nice,” she said. “We just wanted to be in a hotel so we could come and go as we please.”
Super 8 did offer to pay for rooms at another Regina hotel, Jacque said, but when the couple looked at the rooms when they were in Regina a few weeks ago, they decided to find their own hotel.
“It smelled and there were garbage in the hallways,” she said.
The couple has their room at the Comfort Inn booked for the entire weekend and is very excited to cheer on the Riders.
Jacque is just hoping her return to Saskatoon is more special than a regular Monday.
“Back to the real world Monday, with the Grey Cup, hopefully,” she said.
