The future of a proposed photo radar project is on the agenda when Saskatoon city council meets Monday afternoon.

Councillors will vote on whether to allow a SGI pilot project to set up photo radar cameras in the city.

The city’s transportation committee gave it the project the green light earlier this month but council still has to approve it.

The trial project in conjunction with the Saskatoon Police Service would see two cameras rotate throughout 10 locations in the city -- five at locations on Circle Drive and five in school zones.

Several councilors have voiced opposition to the proposal and Mayor Don Atrchison has expressed concern over whether city council was acting within its jurisdiction.

If council votes against photo radar there's nothing stopping police from going ahead with a separate, independent project, but SGI has said it won't move forward with photo radar in Saskatoon if the city doesn't want it.
