A burlesque show scheduled for Sunday night in Saskatoon’s downtown was cancelled because the group did not obtain a licence, the city says.

The Suicide Girls Blackheart Burlesque performance, which was scheduled to take place at O’Brians event centre, was cancelled last minute.

The group did not obtain a licence, under the city’s Adult Services Licensing bylaw, prior to the show, according to the city’s director of community standards Andrew Hildebrandt.

“Nobody had applied for a licence for this particular event,” Hildebrandt said. “Our business licensing and, particularly, our adult service licensing is there to ensure this type of activity is properly being located in the right locations. It’s not about whether we do or don’t want to have the activity.”

The Suicide Girls Blackheart tour is next set to visit Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and London, Ont., before making stops in Europe and the U.S.
