Prepare to pay more for parking fines in Saskatoon.

City Council has given final approval to raise parking fines from 20 to 30 dollars.  The decision came in response to the provincial budget, which cut millions in grants to the city leaving it with a budget shortfall of about $9-million.

The increase in parking fines will take affect July 1st.

Council has held off on a recommendation to allow cab companies to charge a 100 dollar cleaning fee to passengers who leave a vehicle too messy to use. Messes could include bodily fluids, such as vomit or blood.

The taxi industry has been pushing for changes, citing instances when cabs need to be immediately cleaned as a result of a passenger’s mess.

The recommendation has been referred back to administration to examine it further.
