The Saskatoon Fire Department is moving forward with a plan to relocate Station No. 3.

The city says the move will improve response times, save $6 million in capital costs, and $2 million in annual operating costs.

Under the plan, the current No. 3 station on Taylor St. and York Avenue will be decommissioned, and a new station will be built on Clarence Avenue South.

“This will provide coverage in the Stonebridge area neighbourhoods while maintaining the standards in the neighbourhoods currently served,” Chief Moran Hackl said in a written release. “We are now presenting the proposed plan to the communities located next to the new station.”

A report will go to City Council on June 27 if passed at Monday’s Standing Policy Committee. If approved, construction will likely begin in 2017.
