Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark is off to a strong start after taking office two months ago. A poll on approval ratings of mayors across the country shows that Clark is the second most popular mayor out of the 10 cities surveyed.

According to the Mainstreet/Postmedia poll, Clark’s approval rating sits at 72 per cent, only trailing Ottawa mayor Jim Watson who has an approval rating of 79 per cent.

Approval ratings are also high for the newly elected city council. According to the poll, 59 per cent of Saskatoon residents approve of city council.

In comparison, the poll ranks Regina Mayor Michael Fougere as the seventh most popular mayor, with an approval rating of 54 per cent.

The poll was conducted on Jan. 3 and 4 of this year with 600 Saskatoon residents surveyed. The margin of error for the Saskatoon sample is +/- 4%, 19 times out of 20.
