A Saskatoon man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the city’s fifth homicide of the year.

Wallid Adam Mohamed, 29, was arrested early Sunday morning following the stabbing death of 18-year-old Mohammed Omar in the city’s Sutherland neighbourhood.

Police say officers responded around 1 a.m. to a 911 call about a stabbing at a business on the 700 block of Central Avenue.

Officers arrived to find an unconscious man suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and police took Mohamed into custody.

Investigators believe an altercation took place in a vehicle, and then continued inside the business.

Mohamed was charged with first-degree murder after further investigation by major crimes and forensic identification police.

He appeared in court on Monday morning.

Omar, who was identified in court, was from Winnipeg. Police say he and the suspect were known to each other.

An autopsy was set to take place Monday.
