Charges have been laid in a stabbing that left a girl seriously injured at a high school in Shellbrook, Sask. last week.

RCMP say 19-year-old Michael Rudolph of Shellbrook has been charged with aggravated assault and carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.

Rudolph was arrested at a home in the community after a girl was stabbed while she was leaving a classroom at W.P. Sandin School on Friday.

The victim, who police say is under 18, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. RCMP are not releasing updates on the girl's condition, saying "that is their own personal health information."

The school initiated a “hold and secure” protocol, in which exterior doors are locked and monitored but classes continue.

Rudolph and the victim are both students at the school, Mounties said.
