Charges against a Martensville, Sask., man accused in a deadly bar fight have been stayed.

Morgan Kendall Upton was facing manslaughter and aggravated assault charges in connection to a fatal April 2015 fight outside the Adobe Inn in Martensville.

The fight left 44-year-old Vance Labrecque unconscious outside the bar, according to police. He died weeks later in hospital.

The prosecutor’s office says charges against Upton were stayed because a conviction was unlikely.

The Crown has one year to restart criminal proceedings, otherwise charges will be withdrawn.

Upton was 20 years old at the time of the fight.
