City bus drivers are discussing potential job action after contract talks with the city stalled.

The Amalgamated Transit Union says the city ignored the union’s latest contract proposal.

The union presented the contract two weeks ago. The city made a counter offer last week, but the union says the offer did not address issues in the union’s proposal.

“Maybe they need a hearing aid,” union president Jim Yakubowski said. He’s worried the city isn’t listening to their concerns.

He said he’s hopeful the issues can get resolved without job action. He doesn’t want to see transit services disrupted.

“There are some major outstanding issues we want to get resolved. We’re still optimistic we’ll get them resolved,” Yakubowski said.

Transit workers in Saskatoon have been without a contract for four years.

The city’s transit services shut down for a month in 2014 after bus drivers were locked out because of failed contract negotiations.
